how to do it -
You have already taken the first step - evaluating your company's need
for a web site. Now you have decided that your company should have a web site and you need to know what to do next.
Here are a few suggestions.
First, if you are knowledgeable about the Web, willing to invest money in software and are willing to invest your
own time, there is nothing to stop you from developing your own web-site. Software is available that will let you
build a simple web-site based on standard templates and designs in a relatively short time. If you already have
access to the Internet, your Internet Service Provider may offer a hosting package. If not, you should be able
to find another hosting service on the Web.
Perhaps you don't have time for that. Do you think that your time just might be used more profitably running your
business instead of learning the Internet? Besides, why should you invest in software that you will probably use
very little? And what if you want your web site to stand out from all the other sites built from off-the-shelf
designs? What do you do if you want to have unique graphics or photos on your web-site? And what if you just don't
want to get that personally involved?
The answer? Let Starweavers do it! Here is how it works.
After you decide that you want to develop a web site, or even before that if you need help with your decision,
contact Starweavers. We will discuss your web site requirements with you and answer any questions that you may
have at the time. After this discussion, our development team will evaluate your needs and determine Starweavers
capacity to meet those needs. We will then make an appointment with you to meet in person and go over more precise
details of your web site project.
Our goal at this point will be to develop a mutual understanding of your project. We will need to get a rough idea
of the desired content for the site and the availability of graphics and copy. Are original artwork and photographs
available? Most companies already have a logo and a "style" of presentation - are standards available?
Do you already have advertising brochures and materials that could easily translate to the web? You may want to
integrate this kind of material into your web site. Do you want to have your own domain name or are you willing
to be hosted as a sub-domain? All of these details will affect the cost and time it takes to develop your site.
We recommend that your company have one person as a contact for Starweavers and that this person be familiar with
your company's resources in these areas.
This meeting should yield enough information for Starweavers to give you a good estimate of the
cost for your project. We will present you with a detailed quotation, subject to your approval. Once we reach agreement
on costs and schedule, Starweavers will begin development of your web site. Regular progress reports will be made
and approvals will be needed from your company as the project progresses. A final invoice will be issued after
the web site has been completed and approved by your company, though you will probably need to pay a certain amount
of the invoice at the beginning of the project for up-front costs, such as domain name registration.
